The Underground Dance Masters:
Final History of a Forgotten Era
Premiered at the New York
Dance on Camera Film Festival 2008

Located at the
Walter Reade Theatre in New York.

We started filming in 1992, so this has been a 15 year ordeal in producing this film that shows a previously unknown part of American history. The film is called "Underground Dance Masters: Final History of a Forgotten Era". The film takes the viewer on a journey of discovery of the origin, evolution, history and the creators of the Urban Dance forms of Boogaloo, Locking, Popping, Roboting, Rocking and B'boying. The film is based on the Guzman-Sanchez Study™ that began in 1983, that un-covers not only the dance forms but the lives of these Black, Latino and White dance artists that have influenced the world to current day. The Guzman-Sanchez study has for the first time validated what was an oral history and destroyed the web-mythology and verbal mythology that exists in the world today.

MTV & RANDY JACKSON'S
AMERICA'S BEST DANCE CREW
RIPS OFF!
INDEPENDENT LATINO
FILM MAKERS!

The most recent episode of America's Best Dance Crew on
MTV produced by Randy Jackson
(Episode #7 - Evolution of Street Dance)
boldly ripped off
independent filmmakers
Thomas and Paul Guzman-Sanchez after illegally using
scenes, story, and concept
from their feature documentary
Underground Dance Masters:
Final History of a Forgotten Era.
Randy Jackson and MTV with a blatant
disregard for copyright law, decided to feature scenes
from the world-renowned documentary.

No attempt was ever made to contact the independent
film company/owners of this film property.
The MTV show has clearly broken the law in the
open and shut case of copyright infringement.
The show clearly bastardized the content of the
documentary film (that took 16 years to date to produce)
by stating to the viewers a thirty-year street dance history.
MTV clearly did not do its research.

The documentary film features the origin, evolution,
and history of urban street dance beginning in
1965 and is the only definitive source recognized
world wide since its earlier version released in 1996.
It is a shame that this kind of corporate disrespect
has been forced onto an honorable Independent
Latino Production Company. The new version
released in Jan. 5 2008 is respected by academics as
both an important and much needed work, and has
pioneered a new field of study. Legal action is now
underway to right this wrong of abuse.

This major historical documentary features members
of the Electric Boogaloo, The Lockers, Chain Reaction,
One Plus One, Black Messengers,
Granny & Robotroid, Inc.,
Rock Steady Crew, Starchild La Rock,
Pirate and the Easy Walkers, and
Director/Choreographer Kenny Ortega

MTV AND RANDY JACKSON OPEN FOR
LAWSUIT FOR COPY RIGHT INFRINGEMENT.

Admit huge mistake and apoligize to Thomas Guzman-Sanchez!

MTV and Warner Brothers/Verizon the company that owns the program absolutely recognize and apologizes for making the mistake of using unlicensed footage for there TV Show
MTV & RANDY JACKSON'S
AMERICA'S BEST DANCE CREW
The footage used in the TV Show is from the documentary owned by Thomas Guzman-Sanchez /GS Media Group. Through several weeks of talks and exchange of documentation proving that all rights belong to GS Media Group the lead attorney's of Warner Brothers/Verizon for MTV & RANDY JACKSON'S
AMERICA'S BEST DANCE CREW recognized there mistake with full apologizes and reconciliation to the fullest extent possible.
The attorneys for these programs don't usually make these kind of mistakes in obtaining license rights for any outside material on there shows but unfortunately they took at face value the words of a liar as truth and didn't do there research to find the source of the footage.

LATEST NEWS : 4-11-08
SHOULD BE GRATEFUL!
Don Campbell falsely claims
credit as filmmaker for the
documentary
Underground Dance Masters.

Don Campbell back in 1994 agreed to be in the documentary
"Underground Dance Masters" as a dancer telling his story and his story only. He agreed to do it for free and signed a release contract. Back in '94, nobody of that generation knew of Don Campbell or The Lockers, let alone the dance called locking. So when Thomas decided to spend the rest of his life putting his and others from the Street Dance scene into a documentary Thomas had to first locate Don. No one would give out Don's number to get in touch with him. Everybody that knew Don had their own agenda and didn't want Don to be found. Finally, Thomas did find Don Campbell. Don was elated that someone cared enough about him to search him out to tell his story. Don was living on welfare in an apartment in Los Angeles with his wife, step son and children. Don at that time before, during, and after filming would always say, "Thank you for finding me," and he would say it with tears. Don would tell us that his step son didn't respect him as a dancer and he didn't like Locking and thought that Don was a joke. We were sad to see such a great dancer of our era and in our minds have these feelings about his family. After making the documentary Don has gained a new life from it gaining respect, admiration, students, acknowledgment, and his rightful place in Urban Street Dance culture and history. He has traveled the world and is finally being recognized for what he has achieved. But this doesn't go without saying that Don has used the footage over the years with out permission from GS Media Group that owns the copyright and licensing rights to the footage, and his story as told in the documentary. Now he is gone beyond by trying to claim ownership of his story and footage in the documentary. Don has told a lie for so long since the making of the documentary that he truly believes that he owns the project just because he agreed to be in it. Every dancer involved in this project agreed to be on film and signed a contractual agreement. This was and is a DOCUMENTARY not a feature motion picture from a major film company that has a million plus dollar budget. Don if anything should be extremely grateful that Thomas went way out of his way to put Don on the map of Urban Street Dance culture history! Instead he has taken a very ungrateful stance and spreading negative and bad information about Thomas and his brother Paul. Documentary's are for educational purposes only. All the dancers agreed to be on film for FREE!!!!!!!! with no monetary compensation what so ever at the time of filming or after the project finished. They individually went on film to be apart of the documentary period! Thomas Guzman-Sanchez has every right to take Don to court legally if he felt the need. But out of respect for Don he hasn't. Don has now stepped over the boundaries and now his actions have to be accounted for. Thomas Guzman-Sanchez has only tried to preserve the history of the California Street Dance culture. To have the information understood so that dancers like Don would be remembered for their undeniable place in history. Since then Thomas with the help of his brother Paul Guzman-Sanchez has completed his dream of making his documentary on the history of Street Dancing and the information is now finally getting its right place in history and achieving its acclaim.
